Cats at Large

Dear Residents of Caronport,

The Village of Caronport has received multiple complaints regarding roaming cats. Remember you are responsible for your pet on and off your property. We ask that you please be a responsible pet owner and keep your pets on your own property and clean up after your pet.

It is the legal right of a property owner to have live traps on their property, however, there may be serious legal ramifications for the person doing the trapping if the animal is harmed in the process. Keeping clear identification with contact information on your pet could keep your pet from being taken to the Humane Society.

While there may not be a bylaw prohibiting cats from running at large, the Village will be looking into the possibility of adopting one in the near future. This bylaw could also prohibit the number of animals allowed per household and could require the licensing of pets.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Council and Staff
