Village of Caronport news release
Issued: Thurs., May 13, 2021

Today, the Village of Caronport announced a contractor is now moving forward with the community's more than $1.9 million wastewater project, funded in part by the federal and provincial governments.

KMS Construction has been hired to complete Caronport's sewage lagoon expansion project, which will position the village for growth and help protect the environment.

Construction on the project recently began. Work will involve construction of a new 73,000 cubic metre lagoon cell with a synthetic liner. The project is targeted to be complete and fully operational by the end of August 2021.

Through the New Building Canada Fund's Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component – Small Communities Fund Program, the Government of Canada will contribute up to $656,666 toward the project, and the Government of Saskatchewan will contribute up to $656,666. The Village of Caronport will fund the remainder of the $1,970,000 project and any additional costs.

“Reliable wastewater treatment protects the environment and supports community development,” said the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister and Special Representative for the Prairies, on behalf of the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. “The expansion in Caronport will improve capacity to meet current and future demand while creating jobs at a time when they are needed most. Canada's infrastructure plan invests in thousands of projects, creates jobs across the country, and builds cleaner, more inclusive communities.”

“The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to invest more than $650,000 into the Village of Caronport's lagoon expansion project.  When complete, this project will help support a strong and healthy community. It is through investments like this that the Government of Saskatchewan is protecting the provincial economy and environment, while helping residents get back to work and strengthening communities across the province as we recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the Honourable Don McMorris, Saskatchewan's Minister of Government Relations.

"The Village of Caronport is excited to see this project come to fruition. It has been a three-year process to bring our wastewater system into compliance with federal regulations. More importantly it will allow for potential growth in our residential and commercial areas for the next 20 or more years, as well as facilitate for growth for Briercrest College and Seminary who live in our community. We are very thankful for the partnership of both the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan for their contributions to making this project a reality for us. We are looking forward to working with local contractor KMS to create a new 73,000 cubic metre wastewater cell. The Village of Caronport is excited for you to come visit us and hope you would choose to call us home,” said His Worship Daniel Buck, Mayor of the Village of Caronport.
